The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) is an independent federal agency of the United States government that is responsible for advising the President and Congress on national historic preservation policy and for promoting the preservation of historic properties throughout the United States. The ACHP was established by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, which created the National Register of Historic Places and established a system for the protection and preservation of historic properties.
