UNICOR, also known as the Federal Prison Industries, is a government-owned corporation that provides work and training opportunities for federal inmates. UNICOR operates a number of manufacturing and service-based businesses within the federal prison system, including furniture, clothing, and electronics production. The goal of UNICOR is to provide inmates with skills and work experience that will help them successfully re-enter society upon release. In addition to providing training and employment opportunities, UNICOR also offers educational programs and job placement assistance to inmates. UNICOR is self-sustaining and operates without taxpayer funding.
