Most authors swear by the necessity of a great cover when self-publishing a book. And why not, when an attractive cover is what grabs a potential reader’s attention and tells them, in subtle and not-so-subtle ways, what to expect from your story. Unfortunately, the inside pages are sometimes not given as much thought or attention. A wise writer, however, knows that a book with ill-designed content is akin to food that comes in great packaging, but turns out to be a bad surprise when you open it. It may still be nourishing, but the appetite is gone.
