Datapoint was a American computer technology company that was founded in 1968. It is perhaps best known for developing the first commercial microprocessor-based computer, the Datapoint 2200, in 1970. The company also developed the first local area network (LAN) technology, ARCNET, and was an early player in the personal computer market. The company developed and marketed a wide range of hardware and software products, including personal computers, terminals, and computer networking equipment. Datapoint filed for bankruptcy in 1985 and the company was dissolved in the late 1990s. The company’s intellectual property and technology were acquired by several other companies, and some of its products and technologies continue to be used today.
