Cotton Made in Africa (CmiA) is a sustainability initiative that aims to improve the livelihoods of smallholder cotton farmers in Africa. The initiative was founded in 2005 by the Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF), a German non-profit organization. CmiA works to improve the social, economic and environmental conditions of smallholder cotton farmers in Africa by promoting the use of sustainable cotton farming practices and providing training and support to farmers. The initiative also works to improve access to markets for sustainably produced cotton, and to build awareness of the benefits of sustainable cotton production among consumers. The CmiA label is certified by the independent organization Control Union Certifications and it’s recognized as a fair trade label. It’s one of the most important initiative of this kind in Africa.
