The coast guard could be likened to that of a policeman of the sea. Upholding Maritime law and creating safety for those they are sworn to protect. In some countries, the coast guard may be armed as they are deemed part of the military force. Their duties can include stopping smugglers and protecting the country’s borders from unauthorized people accessing their shores. The coastguard protects local waterways and seas but their duties differ from that of the navy who provides services in global waters.
