The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is a state agency that is responsible for protecting and improving the quality of California’s air. The CARB was established in 1967 by the California State Legislature in response to increasing concerns about air pollution in the state. The agency is charged with implementing the state’s air pollution control program and developing policies and programs to reduce air pollution from a variety of sources, including cars, trucks, buses, factories, and power plants. The CARB works with other state, federal, and local agencies, as well as with industry and environmental organizations, to develop and implement regulations and programs that improve air quality in California.
