AmeriCorps is a national service program in the United States that provides opportunities for adults to serve their communities and country. AmeriCorps members serve in a variety of capacities, including providing education, disaster relief, and other community services. The program was created in 1993 as part of the National and Community Service Trust Act. Since its inception, more than 1 million individuals have served in AmeriCorps, providing more than 1.4 billion hours of service. AmeriCorps is administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service, an independent federal agency.
