It promotes a free and virtuous society characterized by individual liberty and sustained by religious principles. The Institute engage in research, publishing, and educational activities in the area of religion and liberty. They also have an international presence through Acton Institute, UK and Acton Institute, Australia . It was founded in 1990 by Rev. Robert A. Sirico and Kris Alan Mauren.
