Consolidated Edison, Inc., also known as Con Edison or Con Ed, is a publicly traded American energy company that provides electric and natural gas service to customers in New York City and Westchester County, New York. The company was founded in 1823 and is based in New York City. It is one of the largest investor-owned energy companies in the United States, serving over 3.4 million customers in the New York City area. Con Edison operates a number of subsidiaries, including Orange and Rockland Utilities, which serves customers in southeastern New York, northern New Jersey, and northeastern Pennsylvania.
