Computervision was an American computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software and systems company that was active from the 1970s to the 1990s. The company was based in Massachusetts and was known for developing some of the first CAD and CAM systems for the engineering and manufacturing industries. They offered a wide range of software and hardware products including CAD, CAM, and computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools, as well as graphics systems, plotters, and other peripheral devices. Their products were used by a variety of industries including aerospace, automotive, and consumer products. Computervision was considered to be a major player in the CAD/CAM industry, however it faced intense competition and struggled to adapt to the shift to personal computers and the transition to 3D modeling. The company was eventually acquired by another firm and its brand and technology were phased out.
