Springfield Armory was a firearms manufacturer located in Springfield, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1777 by George Washington and operated until 1968, when it was closed by the United States government. Springfield Armory is most famous for producing the M1903 Springfield rifle, which was used by the United States military during both World Wars, as well as the M1 Garand, which was the standard-issue rifle for American soldiers during World War II and the Korean War.
