Android Nougat is a version of the Android operating system, released in August 2016. It introduced several new features, including the ability to run two apps side-by-side, called multi-window mode, as well as an improved notifications system, which allowed for bundling of notifications and quick reply from the notification shade. Nougat also introduced the ability to customize the quick settings panel and a new data saver feature, which helped users to reduce data usage. Additionally, Nougat brought improvements to the overall performance and battery life of the device, and introduced support for the Vulkan API for improved graphics performance. Android Nougat was well-received and became one of the most popular versions of Android at the time. It was succeeded by Android 8.0 Oreo in August 2017.
