The 2. Frauen Bundesliga is the second-highest level of women’s association football in Germany. It is the second division of the German Football Association’s (DFB) national league system, below the Frauen Bundesliga (Women’s Bundesliga). The 2. Frauen Bundesliga is contested by 16 teams, with the top two teams earning promotion to the Frauen Bundesliga at the end of each season. The bottom two teams are relegated to the Frauen-Regionalliga, the third division of the women’s league system. The 2. Frauen Bundesliga operates on a promotion and relegation system, with teams moving up or down to the Frauen Bundesliga or the Frauen-Regionalliga based on their performance each season.
