The National Marine Protected Areas Center (MPA Center) is a division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in the United States. The MPA Center is responsible for coordinating the implementation and management of the National System of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the United States. The National System is a network of MPAs that includes a variety of marine and Great Lakes areas that are protected for their conservation, recreational, and cultural values. The MPA Center works with a variety of partners, including federal agencies, state and local governments, and non-governmental organizations, to establish and manage MPAs and to promote conservation and sustainable use of marine resources. The MPA Center also conducts research and provides technical assistance to support the management and conservation of marine resources within the National System.
