STS-87 was a Space Shuttle mission launched on November 19, 1997. The mission patch for STS-87 features the Space Shuttle Columbia and the mission’s payload, the U.S. Microgravity Payload (USMP-3) and the H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV-1). The patch also includes the logo for the USMP-3 mission and the flags of the United States, Japan, and Germany, representing the international collaboration on the mission. The primary objectives of STS-87 included conducting experiments in microgravity and deploying the HTV-1 spacecraft. The mission was successful and concluded with the landing of Columbia at Kennedy Space Center on December 5, 1997.
