STS-61 was a space shuttle mission that was launched on December 2, 1993. The mission was flown by the space shuttle Endeavour and was the 61st mission in the Space Transportation System (STS) program. The primary objectives of the mission were to perform the first servicing mission of the Hubble Space Telescope and to deploy the Spartan-204 payload, which was used to study the Earth’s upper atmosphere. The mission patch for STS-61 features the space shuttle Endeavour, which is surrounded by a blue circle representing the Earth. The patch also features the words “STS-61” and “Endeavour,” as well as the mission’s primary payloads, the Hubble Space Telescope and the Spartan-204. The patch also includes the insignias of NASA and the Spacelab program.
