STS-124 was a Space Shuttle mission to the International Space Station (ISS) flown by Space Shuttle Discovery. The mission launched on May 31, 2008, and was the nineteenth shuttle mission to visit the ISS. The primary objective of the mission was to deliver and install the Japanese Experiment Module – Exposed Facility (JEM-EF), also known as the Kibo module, to the ISS. The JEM-EF was a platform on the outside of the ISS that would allow the ISS crew to perform experiments in the fields of materials science, biology, and other disciplines. The mission also included the delivery of supplies and equipment to the ISS and the rotation of the crew of the ISS.
