STS-123 was a Space Shuttle mission to the International Space Station (ISS) flown by Space Shuttle Endeavour. The mission launched on March 11, 2008, and was the seventeenth shuttle mission to visit the ISS. The primary objective of the mission was to deliver and install the Japanese Experiment Module – Pressurized Module (JEM-PM), also known as the Kibo module, to the ISS. The JEM-PM was the primary component of the Japanese Experiment Module and provided additional living and working space for the ISS crew. The mission also included the delivery of supplies and equipment to the ISS and the rotation of the crew of the ISS.
