STS-106 was a Space Shuttle mission to the International Space Station (ISS) flown by Space Shuttle Atlantis. The mission launched on September 8, 2000, and was the fourth shuttle mission to visit the ISS. The primary objective of the mission was to bring supplies and equipment to the ISS and to prepare the station for the arrival of the first permanent crew. The mission also included the installation of a new air circulation system and the replacement of a faulty gyroscope.
