Gawker was a news and gossip website that was active from 2003 to 2016. It was known for its irreverent and often controversial coverage of celebrities, politicians, and other public figures, as well as for its investigative journalism and commentary on media, culture, and technology. The site was founded by journalist Nick Denton and was headquartered in New York City. It was initially funded by a group of investors, including Denton, and was later acquired by the media company Univision Communications in 2016.
